Resale Fashionista of the Week: Carolyn from Atlanta

Resale Fashionista of the Week: Carolyn, Atlanta GA

Our Resale Fashionista of the Week is Carolyn from Atlanta, GA. Carolyn shares her thrifty style in the Thrifting Atlanta FB Group. She enjoys the variety of high end, low end, one of a kind, trendy, retro and vintage items found all in one place. She makes mental lists and seeks out pieces that might blend with her wardrobe and home decor. "I love the hunt!" she said. "I am currently shopping for my upcoming annual cruise...thrift shopping is fun!"

When did you fall in love with thrifting?
When I was a teenager I loved to go to the Goodwill and Salvation Army store with Mom. My first purchases were all vintage looks and remember them as favorites to this day. I bought embroidered cotton hankies for pennies back then and still use cotton handkerchiefs! I so loved my soft, angora sweater that had a satin collar and pearl-like buttons. My red, plaid, pleated kilt skirt I wore every week to school. That skirt is back in style again! My most favorite was a racoon jacket that I wore all through college until the pelt seams pulled apart. I thought it looked so cool with bell bottom jeans and high heels, another style that has come back around!

What is your most treasured find?
My latest favorite furniture find currently is a folding screen. It fits so well with my eclectic mix of furniture. My favorite fashion find this season is a natural fiber silk/cotton jacket.

What is your number one tip for thrift shopping success?
My best tip is to take a measuring tape along with you. It comes in handy. You can always measure a piece of furniture or clothing item that you're not sure of.

What is the name and location of your favorite thrift, consignment and/or vintage store?
I thrift shop for myself and my living space. I'm fortunate to have many options close to home. My go to store is a Goodwill on S. Cobb Drive, here in Smyrna, Ga, that I visit regularly. I get daily discount texts from Park Avenue Thrift which is further north on S Cobb Dr. I visit Value Village on Cobb Pkwy and recently discovered American Thrift on Canton Rd. It's not in my hood but I recommend it because it's nicely organized with lots to choose from. For furniture my favorite is Habitat for Humanity Restore on S Cobb Dr and any Goodwill of course.  And I'm a consignor and shopper at Revive Consignment on Cobb Pkwy.
